About Reed Academy

“We recognize every student with autism learns differently and our instructors acknowledge this by focusing on each child’s individual needs. Our instructors and their one-to-one relationships are unrivaled, both in and out of the classroom. I couldn’t be prouder of our staff, our students, and our program in its entirety.”

Discover What Sets US Apart

REED Academy began in 2003 when a small group of parents came together, eager to find the right education for their children with autism. What started in two small rooms in Washington Township, New Jersey, has grown into a leading school for individuals with an autism diagnosis. Read on to learn more.

EVIDENCE-BASED INDIVIDUALIZED EDUCATION

Each child with autism has unique educational needs and challenges. REED Academy educators tailor their teaching to those specific needs using applied behavior analysis (ABA), which uses scientific and ethical approaches to understand why people do what they do in order to help them make meaningful changes to their behavior. By focusing on each child’s strengths and areas in need of growth, we strive for every student to reach his or her full potential.

PARTNERSHIP WITH FAMILIES

It’s not enough for students to learn in the school environment—the goal is for them to learn skills and habits they can take with them everywhere. Parents and families are instrumental in this comprehensive approach. That’s why we offer ABA training for families to promote the transfer of skills learned at school to the home setting, and we work hand-in-hand with parents and caregivers to identify meaningful goals and objectives.  Partnering with families—not just students—is core to our mission.

CUTTING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY

Technology plays an integral role in supporting exceptional educational services. Tools like iPads can empower students of every age, in some cases allowing them to communicate effectively with others for the very first time. These technologies aid students with communication, help to provide dynamic and engaging instruction, and offer opportunities for leisure activities. Our educators use Hi Rasmus, an advanced online data collection system, which provides sophisticated analysis and easy access to information for parents and caregivers.

ENVIRONMENTS MADE FOR LEARNING

REED Academy’s warm and inviting state-of-the-art schools in Oakland and Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, are designed to equip every student with the learning and life skills they need so they can live, work, and thrive in their communities.

With campuses in Franklin Lakes and Oakland, we serve students from towns throughout northern and central New Jersey. Learn more about our school program.
