Real-life job training for students

REED Academy provides Work-Based Learning (WBL) experiences for teens and young adults to explore and learn about various jobs.

One of the leading issues facing adults with autism is the lack of employment options. With the right support, these adults can become valued workers and contributing members of their community. Our WBL program provides in-depth learning opportunities that align with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards for students aged 16 and older. These individualized experiences integrate classroom learning with hands-on practice and the guidance of an individual job coach.

Pre-vocational programming begins at an early age to help teach foundational skills needed in the work setting. These skills may include learning how to perform job tasks and engage in social interactions. Once a student reaches the age of 16, WBL can be incorporated to help assist students in furthering their education, developing employability skills, and easing the transition between high school and employment.  REED has partnered with a wide range of local businesses including restaurants, medical facilities, fitness centers, and office settings. This varied range of job sampling opportunities allows for the ideal pairing of a student’s interest and individual skill set.
